SUMMARY:Mahler Symphony No. 2 at Bold Tendencies
DESCRIPTION:Ella is the soprano soloist in Mahler’s beautiful Symphony No. 2 “Resurrection” for the closing night of the Bold Tendencies Festival in Peckham. \n“We close the season with Gustav Mahler Symphony No. 2 ‘Resurrection’\, presented by the Philharmonia Orchestra and Philharmonia Chorus\, led by brilliant young Greek conductor Nefeli Chadouli in her first ever UK appearance. Mahler’s monumental work for orchestra and voices offers a universal message\, the search for sustainable purpose and meaning amidst human suffering. As the world trembles and fractures a massed\, otherworldly chorus sings in primal light\, “Rise again\, yes\, rise again you will!”. The event will take place in the distinguished presence of Marina Mahler\, Mahler’s granddaughter and president of the Mahler Foundation. \nGustav Mahler (1860-1911) is one of the most significant composers of the 20th century\, whose symphonies remain a high point of orchestral writing to this day. \nAthens-born Nefeli Chadouli (b. 1993) holds a prestigious Taki Alsop Conducting Fellowship (Associate Fellow 2024-26); and is currently completing her MA in Orchestral Conducting at Universität de Kunste Berlin. She is the permanent conductor of Berlin’s Babylon Orchester; and founder of the Youth Orchestra “Periklis Koukos” at the National Conservatory of Greece.”

SUMMARY:Mozart and folk song
DESCRIPTION:Ella returns home to Sheffield to perform as soloist with Ensemble 360 as part of Music in the Round’s May Festival. \nMOZART Ach\, ich fühl’s! (from The Magic Flute) (5’)\nMOZART String Quintet No.4 in G minor K516 (36′)\nTRAD. Se solen sjunker (Swedish folksong) (3′)\nSCHUBERT Piano Trio No.2 in E flat (44′)  \nMusic in the Round is delighted to welcome Robin Ireland back to the Crucible\, a venue he knows so well from his years as violist with the Lindsay String Quartet.   \nRobin will join Ensemble 360 for one of Mozart’s finest chamber works\, his String Quintet in G minor. It’s a work that’s rich in drama\, the hallmark of one of the greatest opera composers\, and a delicate aria from Mozart’s The Magic Flute will lead straight into the Quintet.  \nSchubert’s Second Piano Trio was one of the final pieces he completed before his death at the young age of 31. It’s a work of incredible emotional depth\, with its most famous melody\, frequently used in soundtracks for film and television\, inspired by a traditional Swedish folksong.
